Building a Context for Relationship Workshop: Roles, Relationships and Places of Belonging

Join us for a transformative workshop designed for families, caregivers, and community members who want to create meaningful relationships and inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities. "Building a Context for Relationship" is a hands-on learning experience focused on fostering belonging, purpose, and valued roles within our communities.
Led by Janet Klees, a seasoned advocate with nearly 40 years of experience, this workshop will provide practical tools, inspiring stories, and a proven framework based on Social Role Valuation (SRV). Participants will explore strategies for building natural support systems, strengthening relationships, and creating welcoming spaces where everyone can contribute and thrive.

Hands-on activities to develop meaningful support systems
The workshop will occur in person in Dartmouth, and virtual participation options will be available. Support and travel accommodations can also be arranged for those attending in person. I will share the details when registration.

Join us at the NSCC - Ivany Campus for an exciting opportunity to learn and connect with Lorna.
Lorna Sullivan, a global disability leader from New Zealand, will bring forward tangible ideas, insights and solutions on how to build an inclusive life in community. She is the founder of Imagine Better and was involved in the development of the Enabling Good Lives principles. She has been instrumental in supporting policy change and inspiring grassroot movements around the globe, and was awarded Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Championing Inclusion: School Advocacy Series - July 17th, 2024
Thank you everyone who attended our first ever session of the Championing Inclusion: School Advocacy Series. We heard from Lois Landry and Stephanie Carver and their experiences as families, educators and Allison Bishop as a Developmental Interventionist with Nova Scotia Early Childhood Development Intervention Services (NSECDIS) in navigating the school system and advocating for inclusive education.
Lois, Allison and Stephanie spoke on a variety of different topics such as understanding the relevant local policies, what does inclusion look like in schools?, envisioning an inclusive life with your child, knowing your rights, communicating with teachers, administrators and regional centers of education and individual and system advocacy strategies.

Family Roundtable on Inclusive Afterschool Programs - May 29th, 2024
On May 29, 2024, we hosted our Family Roundtable discussion, building on the valuable insights we received from our first family workshop in April. It was an inspiring evening of conversation, where families from across Nova Scotia came together to share their experiences and concerns regarding inclusive afterschool programs for youth aged 12 and up with intellectual disabilities.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated. Your feedback and perspectives are invaluable to us as we continue working towards creating more inclusive and empowering afterschool care options. Thank you for helping us shape the future of afterschool programs in Nova Scotia.
